Our neighborhood is only as vibrant as the people who live here. As a neighbor in this West Side community, Steepletown strives to assure everyone is doing well. To that end, we are constantly trying to bring as many resources to the neighborhood as possible, providing an array of support services and educational programs.
Neighborhood Emergency Assistance Offering assistance for eviction or utility shut-off, West side residents (49504 Zip Code) may apply for limited funds that are available. Through an intake and assessment process, Steepletown works with households to identify internal and local resources needed to meet their financial emergency. To address the long-term needs of the household, several support services and educational programs are offered through Steepletown. These develop the tools and resources needed to meet ongoing basic needs and thereby avoid future emergency crises.
Budgeting Class Through Assistance we offer a Basic Budgeting Class. These are designed to help individuals and families learn to better manage their household finances. A Credit Repair class is offered as needed/requested.
Free Income Tax Preparation Low-income households who need help in filing their annual Income Tax Returns (Federal, State and Local) can receive free assistance at the Steepletown Center, in conjunction with the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition (KCTCC) VITA Program. Through a partnership with Chemical Bank and other local businesses IRS Certified Volunteers help those who qualify. This service is available during the months of February and March.
